Private jet charter in the Caribbean
During the winter months, many of our leisure clients look to escape to warmer climates in the Caribbean islands, one of the most popular travel destinations for luxury travellers.
And when it comes to getting around, the unique geography of the region means private aviation really comes into its own – as there are literally thousands of islands.
Some clients choose to use a private aircraft for the whole journey from the starting point, whether coming from Europe or the US. In fact, the top Caribbean private jet route is between Ft. Lauderdale, Florida and the Bahamas, followed by St Maarten and New York City, Bahamas and New York City, and fourth Turks & Caicos and New York City.
However, many others choose to use a combination of airline flights and private aviation to reach their final Caribbean destination. This is proven by the fifth most popular Caribbean private jet route, between the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico, as many luxury travellers choose private jets to hop from island to island.
So which out of the thousands of islands are the most popular Caribbean destinations overall with private jet travellers? Here are the Top 10 busiest airports for private jet charter flights in the region during the peak season November to April:
1) Luis Munoz Marin International Airport, San Juan, Puerto Rico (SJU)
Puerto Rico’s Luis Munoz Marin International airport is the busiest airport in the region for airline flights, and for private jet charter activity. A popular gateway between the Caribbean and the United States, visitors flock to this island to enjoy more than 434 km of beautiful beaches.
2) Princess Juliana International Airport, St Maarten (SXM)
St Maarten (also known as St Martin by the French) is split between the Netherlands and France. Its airport, the Princess Juliana International, offers one of the world’s most stunning landings – coming in very low over water – and was the winner of the PrivateFly Airport Approaches Poll for 2013. The airport is another important hub in the Caribbean, connecting airline flights and those in larger private jets, with smaller aircraft bound for more remote islands.
