THE GUARDIAN: Icelandic volcano: latest travel advice for passengers
While volcanic ash is damaging to jet engines, old-fashioned piston-engined planes are apparently unaffected. Private aviation company
PrivateFly.com
says it has been chartering piston planes across Europe in the last few days to get passengers moving. About 20 of its clients have travelled overland to Le Touquet in northern France then flown in piston-engined planes back to UK airports.

Private jet boss Adam Twidell is also a freelance pilot and has a clever scheme for skipping airport queues and getting upgrades - he simply wears his uniform
"I travel economy on short haul flights because our business is at a point where I can't justify the expense of business class. However, I'm still a freelance pilot and if I'm travelling somewhere to pick up an aircraft that I'm flying, I might have my uniform on and then I'll often get upgraded and be able to skip queues. The uniform has its disadvantages though - you get a hell of a lot of people asking you directions to gate 16."

Next time you are landed with a hefty parking fee, spare a thought for the pilots of the private jets at London City Airport, or rather the owners of those jets.
"It costs £75 per 15 minutes to park there," says Adam Twidell, 37, chief executive of PrivateFly, a web portal that aims to bring passengers and operators together.

Private jet website touts white label deals
A private jet broker is seeking upmarket trade partners worldwide for its new white label website, after signing up one luxury travel provider. PrivateFly operates an online platform for comparing and booking private aviation charter around the world.
The company has teamed with JMS Events & Services, which recently launched the white label version of the booking engine's platform. Jean-Marc Meuret, JMS chief executive, said: 'We already white-labelled other travel products, and now a private jet booking platform is a very exciting addition to our customer offering.'
