Almost one fifth (18 per cent) of business leaders have travelled by private jet, according to a survey by the online private jet network, PrivateFly.com. And 55 per cent of those have done so to save time or improve efficiency.
CEOs, MDs and chairmen from some of the UK's top companies were invited to participate in the study undertaken by Clarity, an independent online research group. Participants gave a score from 0-5 for various attributes of different forms of business transport, with private aviation receiving an average score of 3.54 for work productivity - higher than any other mode of transport. It also scored highest for comfort and style, with an average of 4.32.
The other modes of transport considered included train travel; car/chauffeur; and airlines. Underground trains were rated the least effective in terms of work productivity, receiving an average score of 1.48.
Nearly half (45 per cent) also chose private jet travel because they were travelling with important clients. 18 percent said a direct route to their destination hadn't been available using airlines.
Commenting on these findings, Adam Twidell, CEO of PrivateFly.com, said: "The ability to work on the move is critical for time-starved senior executives and a significant number recognise the business efficiency benefits of private jet hire. Business travel by private jet provides a comfortable and confidential office in the sky while getting from A to B in the shortest possible time."
The full results of the study are available in a white paper written by business journalist, Jeremy Skidmore.
Summary of key findings:
- Public transport is failing UK businesses
- Business travel future looks buoyant
- Business leaders mix the old with the new
