History
The airport was initially built on an old landfill site in the early 1950’s. Runway lights were eventually installed by December 1954, a new terminal was constructed in 1961. By 1967 the runways became paved with asphalt.
The airport has been expanded twice since and improvements have also been made to older sections of the airport over the years.
The Runway was extended in 2009 by an extra 500 metres.
