Bristol International Airport History

In 1927 a group of local businessman managed to raise the funds needed to start a flying club at Filton Aerodrome. The project created a lot of interest and it was decided that an airport for Bristol should be developed and Bristol Airport was officially opened in 1930.As there was no possibility of extended the runway at this location, eventually in 1955 a new City airport was agreed which was known as ‘Bristol (Lulsgate) Airport’. After various extensions over the years, the airport was rebranded as Bristol International Airport in 1997, to recognise the increasing number of international destinations the airport now served.
