Salt Lake City International Airport History

Salt Lake City International Airport first opened in 1911 as a site for the Great International Aviation Carnival. It was mainly used for training and aerobatic flights until 1920, when the US Postal Service began air mail service to Salt Lake City.

The US Air Force used it as a base during World War II, when a third runway was added. And in 1958, it was officially named Salt Lake City International Airport.

The airport saw expansion and increased demand in the 1980s and 90s. It services international flights as well as domestic routes.
