Private jet booking servicePrivateFlyhas produced an infographic summary and report to show which airports were the most used by business aviation in Europe over the whole of 2015. The data also shows which airports have gained or dropped in popularity compared to the year before.

Key findings include:

  • Paris Le Bourget is the busiest airport for business aviation in Europe. The dedicated private jet airport handled almost 50,000 flight movements (a departure or arrival) in 2015. This was followed by Geneva at no.2 (32,836) and Nice Cote D’Azur at no.3 (29,880).
  • However London outstrips all other cities, when you combine all the UK capital’sairports. Five feature in the Top 20, with a combined total over 84,000 flight movements.
  • London Oxford and London Biggin Hillairports both saw significant increases in popularity in 2015, up 11% and 5% respectively. As did Palma de Mallorca, which entered the top 20 for the first time.
  • The biggest loser in Europe last year was Moscow Vnukovo, seeing falls of 22% from 2014, due to continuing political unrest. Geneva was also down by 7%.

The biggest loser in Europe last year was Moscow Vnukovo, seeing falls of 22% from 2014, due to continuing political unrest. Geneva was also down by 7%. The infographic analysis uses industry data from industry intelligence provider WingX-Advance.com. Adam Twidell, CEO of PrivateFly comments on the findings: “This makes for a fascinating snapshot of the business and leisure habits of private aircraft users. There is a huge choice of airports in Europe for private aviation – over 3,000 in total, versus around 300 used by airlines. But naturally key economic and business capitals such as London, Paris, Geneva and Zurich see a major proportion of the flight activity.
“But we can also see how luxury leisure drives private jet travel in Europe, with Nice Cote D’Azur the third busiest, due to its major demand in the spring and summer months. Palma de Mallorca is also rising in popularity, with an increasing number of second home owners and real estate investors flying in and out of the island on a regular basis.
“Overall private jet demand in Europe still saw a slight decline in 2015 (0.6% down on 2014), and many airports saw a decrease in activity, notably Moscow, due to the continuing political unrest.
“London continues to be Europe’s private jet success story. The private jet customer has a wide choice of private jet airports in the UK capital, and we can see how Biggin Hill and Oxford (regarded as a London airport) are both gaining in popularity, due to their growing awareness amongst private jet users”.
