History

The airport was built in 1971, to support the increasing popularity of Mykonos with tourists during the summer months. Mykonos had grown in popularity as a centre for bohemian travellers in the 1960s, who were drawn by its beauty and tranquility. The opening of the airport then led to further growth in tourism and it now known as the party island of Greece.

The airport was privatised in December 2015, and is now operated by a joint venture between Fraport AG and Copelouzos Group, which runs Mykonos Airport and 13 other airports in Greece.

Location

The airport is located southeast of Mykonos town, in the West of the island. The airport is just 4 kilometres or a 10 minute drive from the centre of town.

The island of Mykonos is located in the Cyclades island group, in the Aegean sea. It is 184km from Athens, or a 30 minute flight time.

Opening Hours

The airport's opening hours vary depending on season. During the summer the airport is open 0600-2200, winter opening hours are shorter. Flights outside standard opening hours may be arranged, but may be subject to additional airport charges.

With such high demand in the summer months, private jet slots can be limited and restrictions mean private jet aircraft can only stay on the ground for under an hour. We advise booking as far ahead as possible to secure a specific slot time.

Facilities

Mykonos offers 24-hour customs and immigration facilities for VIP flights, and FBO handling options are available.
