History of Stockholm Bromma Airport
Opened in 1936 by King Gustav V, Stockholm Bromma Airport was the first to feature a runway with a paved surface. In the fifties the airport began to expand rapidly, however the runway was too short for the emerging intercontinental jetliners such as the DC-8 and 707.
Arlanda Airport, 30km north of the Stockholm was opened in the early sixties, designed as an international gateway to the world with commercial flights to America, Africa, Asia and the Middle East.
By 1983 all domestic carriers moved their operations to Arlanda, following the completion of a new larger terminal complex. Bromma has since established itself as a general aviation hub, and is home to many flying schools.
In 2004 the first Swedish FBO Grafair Jet Center was completed, providing support and services to the growing number of corporate jets & turboprops using that began visiting the airport.
