TRENDING THIS SUMMER: EUROPE’S 5 PRIVATE JET HOTSPOTS 2017
Luxury travellers looking to reach the hotspot of Mykonos this summer may be disappointed, if they haven’t yet booked their private jet. According to PrivateFly, demand is at such a premium, the island’s airport is forced to turn away private jets at peak times – with some switching to helicopters instead.
PrivateFly has released details of the five European destinations seeing the biggest increase in searches for flight departures in July in August on its website and app, compared to last summer. The hotspots are:
- Mykonos (+ 54%)
- Ibiza (+ 38%)
- Palma de Mallorca (+ 29%)
- Santorini (+ 28%)
- Naples Capodichino (+ 27%)
Carol Cork, marketing director and co-founder of PrivateFly comments:
“Mykonos has become a trending hotspot with private jet travellers over the past few years – attracted by its beauty, nightlife and growing list of exclusive events. But this year there is unprecedented demand.
“Supply is struggling to meet demand at times - for both airport capacity and available aircraft. When the airport is particularly under pressure, aircraft cannot wait on the ground for their passengers, and are given just a 30-minute window to land and take off again, due to a lack of parking space and runway slots.
“At some of the busiest times – particularly on Fridays – the airport cannot accept any more landings at all, so last minute travellers have to make alternative plans. To get around this problem, we are flying some customers onto the island by helicopter from Athens.
“Other island airports such as Ibiza, Palma and Santorini are seeing some of the same capacity issues. But Mykonos is the place to arrive in your private jet this summer, for those that can get there!”
Current example charter prices for Mykonos are as follows:
- £22,600 for an 8-seater Citation XLS, from London Luton to Mykonos (one-way)
- Helicopter from Athens to Mykonos one-way, 30 mins, €3,000
