Dallas Addison Airport History

Construction on Dallas Addison Airport began in 1957 when private developers purchased and began building runways on a 400 acre parcel on land in northern Dallas. During the 1960’s it became the first privately owned airport to have a federally funded airport control tower. During this time Dallas Addison Airport became the busiest general aviation airport in the country.

The town of Addison purchased the airport in 1976 and has owned it since. Today, Dallas Addison Airport is the third busiest general aviation airport in the United States. Dallas Addison Airport houses the Cavanaugh Flight Museum, which has an impressive collection of military aircraft from WWI, The Korean War and the Vietnam War.

Dallas Addison Airport is located in the northern Dallas suburb of Addison, Texas and is just 14 miles from downtown Dallas.
