The airport officially opened in 1937 after the Jersey Chamber of Commerce realised the importance of having an airport for the growing numbers of people using air travel, before the airport was built, aircraft would simply land on the island's beaches.
During the 1950’s the airport began to expand with Jersey becoming a popular tourist destination, and in the 1970’s the airport was 6th busiest airport in Europe.
After several extensions to the runway over the years, in 1976 it reached its current length of 1,706 metres.
In recent years Jersey Airport has updated its control tower and resurfaced its runways, and had a major redevelopment of its departures lounge.
Jersey Airport is situated on the western side of Jersey Island 5 miles west or a 15-minute drive away of the island's capital St Helier.
Opening hours: The airport is open from 6:30 to 20:30 local time in summer and from 7:00 to 21:00 local time in winter.
