Las Palmas Gran Canaria Airport History

Originally the site for military air force operations, Las Palmas Gran Canaria Airport opened for civilian use in 1930. The passenger terminal was opened in 1946 and the runway was completed in 1957.

The airport began making improvements such as expanding the terminal and building a new control tower in 1963. However by 1973 a new passenger terminal to replace the old terminal building was opened, and a second runway was completed in 1980.
