HISTORY
Following the increased popularity for travel to The Seychelles in the 1970s, demand increased for operations to and from the airport. In 1972 Queen Elizabeth II inaugurated the airfield and in 1980 extensive construction began to handle the continuous increase in passenger traffic. Major work was finalised in 2005 and 2006, and the airport can now handle an increased number of medium and large aircraft.
Today, the airport operates a domestic terminal, offering inter-island services within the Republic of Seychelles. Another terminal is dedicated to international travel. There’s also a cargo terminal for international and domestic freight.
