History
Quito’s new Mariscal Sucre International Airport was officially opened in February 2013. After 53 years, the old and severely congested City Airport was finally closed, transferring all operations to the new and larger International Airport.
At an elevation of 2400m, the new Mariscal Sucre International Airport sits 400m lower than the 1960s city airport, enabling the use of instrument landing systems for operations in bad weather.
With an area of 1,500 hectares of land for possible expansion, the new Mariscal Sucre International Airport has vast amounts of room to grow over the coming years.
