History of Riviera Airport

In 1922, an aerodrome with a 900m long grass runway was built in Villanova d'Albenga.

In 1929, Piaggio Aerospace opened a factory at the airfield, and improved and re-surfaced the runway in 1937.

The airfield was used by the military reasons during WW2, then reopened for civil use in 1947.

Piaggio Aerospace moved away from Albenga in 2014, and the airport was then privatized in 2015.
