History
Sao Paulo Congonhas Intl Airport was opened 12th September 1936. It was the second airport to be built in Sao Paulo city, an alternate to the smaller Campo de Marte Airport.
Cargo flights into Congonhas Intl Airport became extremely popular. By 1957 Sao Paulo Congonhas Intl Airport was among the busiest hubs in the world for freight traffic.
Domestic and International flights were both operated into Congonhas Intl Airport until 1985, when the larger Guarulhos Airport was built with a significantly longer runway.
