Toronto Pearson International Airport History

Ottawa announced that it would build a new airport in Toronto in 1935. Originally known as Malton Airport, the name changed to Toronto International Airport in 1960. The name Pearson was added in 1984, in honour of Lester B Pearson, the fourteenth Prime Minister of Canada and Nobel Peace Prize winner.

As passenger numbers grew, a third terminal was added to the airport in 1991. Two new runways were also built and completed in 2002.
