Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk Airport by Private Jet
Overview summary
The island of Sakhalin is the largest offshore Russian Island and is situated in the North Pacific, just 400 miles north of mainland Japan.
This geographical proximity to both countries has led to bitter disputes over the sovereignty of the island. Today, the island is part of Russia, however tensions between the two countries still run high.
History
The island’s main airport, Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, was originally built as a military airfield in 1945 and has an 11,150 ft runway.
The airport has scheduled services to mainland Russia and occasional charter flights to Japan, however connections to other destinations are virtually non-existant.
