Volcanic Ash Cloud Flight Disruption

Last updated 2011: The Icelandic Ash Cloud from the eruption of Grimsvotn is causing flight disruption to UK and European flights.
Airports and air space remain open, but some airlines have cancelled flights.

Flying in the affected area is possible and safe using suitable aircraft including using piston-engine propeller aircraft, low altitude jets or turbo-propeller aircraft.

**Ash Cloud Latest Update**

Latest information from the Met Office shows that following the recent eruption of Grimsvotn in Iceland, no volcanic ash is currently predicted in airspace over the UK from 0100 UK time on Wednesday 25th May.

The Ash Cloud is affecting airports and air space in Northern Germany. Air space in Northern Germany is currently closed and the ash cloud is expected to affect Berlin from 1100-1700 (0900GMT-1500GMT) and Bremen and Hamburg Airports.

Airline Update
Air space in Northern Germany is currently closed and the following airlines have flight cancellations and delays:

Lufthansa has said it expected a total of 150 of its flights to be cancelled.
